The best of the year that was sort of the worst.

6 Great Things About 2016
geralt/Pixaby

2016 was an interesting year to say the least. A lot of good things happened, and lot of bad things happened. Such is life. I personally choose to focus on the good because bad things are bad. If you feel the same here are six really good things from 2016.

1. Twitter

As we suffered the lows and lows of the year, at least we always had the ability to tweet through it. Memes, hot takes and "Bad and Boujee" videos got us through a rough year laughing (and cringing) all the way.

2. Awesome Rap Music

2016 was an insanely great year for hip-hop. Major and new artists dropped great projects throughout the year, and the ATL sound ruled. It may be impossible since so many artists shined, but my personal top five right now-

Rappers who deserve to be on the list but aren't- Future, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Rae Sremmurd, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, Schoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz

5. Quavo

4. Drake

3. Kanye West

2. Chance the Rapper

1. Young Thug

Please don't get mad at me, I love them all.

3. A Crazy Year of Sports

Upsets, wild finishes and inspired performances were the norm in sports this year. The NFL playoffs, March Madness and the NBA finals were all ones for the ages, full of unforgettable moments for some, and devastating and soul-sucking heartbreak for others (Packers-Cardinals I'm looking at you). I mean the Cubs won the series for crying out loud. 2017, you're up.

4. Amazing Television

First things first, watch "The OA" on Netflix. Not many people are talking about it, which is a crime. It's like grown-up, scarier "Stranger Things," and is so so so good. That's three so's, so you need to watch. Besides "The OA," so many incredible shows were made in 2016, with a huge variety of emotion and meaning behind them. Television has officially become better than movies, as the smartest creators realize the massive storytelling potential TV offers. If you need some suggestions for something to watch in 2017, look no farther.

5. Inspirational Young People

Trust the process. Sam Hinkie's now somewhat infamous motto for the Philadelphia 76ers rebuilding is more than a hilarious basketball joke, it's a reminder that young people are limitless. Whether it's young NBA stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Karl Anthony-Towns, Kristaps Porzingis or Joel Embiid revitalizing the league, or young rappers such as Lil Yachty and Chance the Rapper becoming stars before our eyes, never forget young people are the best. To those who disagree, just try to stop us.

6. Personal Triumphs

As tough as 2016 may have been for you, I know you succeeded in some way. Adversity is what molds who you are, and other sappy motivational stuff I don't have the stomach to write. Whatever you accomplished this past year, a sincere congratulations, and I offer you a gentle reminder to do better 2K17.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
