Pittsburgh is certainly a metropolis of interesting foods. Just about every restaurant you stop at has a Pittsburgher twist on a traditional plate, and the same goes for sandwiches. There's just something about combining multiple foods into one super-sandwich that Pittsburgh does best.
The possibilities are nearly endless around the city for good eats, but consider this a hot starting point for your quest of sandwich supremacy!
Thin Man Sandwich Shop
Where to get your grub on: Strip District
What you're going to order: Thin Man
Thin Man Sandwich Shop offers an interesting combination between a casual, sandwich shop atmosphere and high-quality food. Their chefs are classically trained and had previously worked at some of the highest-end restaurants around the city. Wash down your delicious sandwich with their in-house infused seltzer drinks!
Carson Street Deli & Craft Beer Bar
Where to get your grub on: Southside
What you're going to order: Donnie Brasco
For the DIY sandwichers, Carson Street Deli is the spot for you. This stop on your expedition is met with an overwhelming amount of sandwich-building options, but there is also an expansive menu of pre-constructed sandwiches for your choosing. Wash your Franken-sandwich down with a cold local brew and enjoy the brief stint of Nirvana.
Szmidt's Old World Deli
Where to get your grub on: Downtown
What you're going to order: Pole-Lockarogi
Szmidt's (pronounced 'schmeeds', so you don't sound like an outta-towner) is certainly known mostly for their fantastic pierogies, but they certainly offer some of the best sandwiches around, too. Their reuben is always a safe bet, but nothing beats the 'Pole-Lockarogi', a behemoth sandwich boasting bacon, sauerkraut, and four potato-cheddar pierogies.
Peppi's Old Tyme Sandwich Shop

What you're going to order: The 7
It doesn't get much more 'yinzer' than Peppi's menu, naming several of their sandwiches after Steelers players, among other various Pittsburgher things (see 'The Wiz' and 'The Phantom.') The champion here is 'The 7', aka the 'Roethlisburger', named after Big Ben himself.
The Yard
The Yard is one of the best Pittsburgh spots, and now with a location in Market Square it is a must-have! With 26 different types of gourmet grilled cheese, delicious burgers, tasty appetizers and loads of on-tap beers to choose from, The Yard has a little something for everyone.
Primanti Bros.
Where to get your grub on: Market Square, Strip District, Southside, Oakland
What you're going to order: Capicola and Cheese
Good ol' Permanni's. Believe it or not, there are still Pittsburghers that have yet to have a Primanti Bros sandwich. Combing your choice of meat and cheese and topped with fresh coleslaw and fries, Primanti's offers quite the formidable sandwich. Your sandwich expedition will never be complete without a visit to this shop.
