Imagine yourself sitting on a public bus with about eighty other strangers waiting to get home so you can climb into your comfy bed and relax. Not even half way through this ride your bus pulls over and the driver announces that there is something wrong with the engine and he has to check it out. What is the first thing you think of? How do you feel after hearing those words? What do you do? There are so many emotions going on in that bus that it can get kind of crazy.
Here is a list of the emotions that people feel when they're stuck on a bus. Whereas one person may not experience every single one of these emotions, you better believe someone in the situation is feeling this way.
Anger - This the first emotion many people feel. Those words force you to change up your whole schedule. Things are supposed to go smoothly, so when mistakes happens you get angry and start to blame everyone and everything except for the broken down bus.
Sadness - Sadness kicks in when you realize it’ll take longer for you to get to your destination and/or see your family or friends.
Anxiety - Whenever you take the bus, scheduling is important. You have to make sure someone is there to get you the station. Hopefully there is no traffic or anything to delay when you are supposed to arrive, and then there has to be someone there to pick you up when you finally do arrive. When the schedule is messed up you may start to get anxious about timing.
Carelessness - Some people are just nonchalant about situations like this. I think this is how I am most of the time. When my bus broke down I just put my headphones on and zoned out (after I made sure my parents were aware of my whereabouts and what was going on).
Annoyed - I think every single person on a broken down bus gets annoyed. With so many people and so many emotions, it's easy to get annoyed by at least one of them.
Acceptance - Once you realize there is absolutely nothing you can do about the situation, you finally accept it. I mean, it's not like you can drive the bus yourself, so you just sit back and wait for the situation to be handled properly.
Last weekend was the first time I experienced a bus break down! I did not know what to do with myself. I was on the bus by myself so the first thing I did was call my parents, and then once I contacted them I pulled out my computer and headphones and turned a movie on. I knew I could not do anything for that bus, so I got comfortable and passed time while we waited for a new bus to arrive. We all made it safely eventually, but that experience was one for the books.
