All Christians have come to the point in their faith where they struggle to hear or see God. You feel as if you are alone or simply ignored. But if we remain truly faithful to Him, we will always find light in the dark times. Here are some scriptures I look to when I need God's comfort and encouragement.
1. "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." -- Proverbs 3:5-6
This verse reminds me that I can always call upon God and turn to Him for wisdom. I will always know that if I am seeking God, I will find truth and light.
2. "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you may have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." -- John 16:33
This verse reminds me that, whatever strife comes to me, God has already won. I have no worries because the battle has already been fought. It is finished.
3. "My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life." -- Psalm 119:50
God promises us that if we are faithful and we believe in him, we will share eternity with him. This promise sustains me, knowing that one day all of my sufferings will be gone, and I will get to revel in the glory of Christ forever.
4. "Jesus replied, 'You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.'" -- John 13:7
When something traumatic happens, people often ask "Why?" Jesus answers in an unusual way with this verse. And although it is frustrating not to know right now His reasoning for everything, I find comfort in knowing that one day I will.
5. "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." -- Romans 5:8
As Christians, it is important to remember that God loved us so much that He sent His own Son to be murdered for us. He gave us the gift of grace. He loved us at our darkest time.
6. "And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the Earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." -- Romans 8:38-39
No matter where we are, whether we are broken or doubtful, God will never leave us. There is nothing we could ever do to make God love us any more or any less. Our Father is always by our side. He will never leave you. He will never turn his back. He is right there.
