5Ks That Are Actually Worth It

Races have always been around, but like everything else in our society they’re definitely evolving and getting more expensive. A 5k isn’t the worse distance to run but it is more fun when you add crazy obstacles and costumes into the mix. Here are some 5Ks that are worth the money for various reasons:

Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas 5k

Spend Saturday night on the Las Vegas strip — running. In the entertainment center of the world, this 5k ends at the Mirage and hosts concerts for famous musicians such as Kid Rock. Live bands and DJs are also littered across the course to keep racers entertained. Not only will you receive the traditional T-shirt and medal for finishing, but the runners perks wristband unlocks discounts around Las Vegas for the weekend.

The Color Run

Nicknamed the “Happiest 5k on the Planet,” this run gives avid photo-takers a chance to blow up their friends’ feed with amazing photos. Runners are encouraged to dress in all white as they face clouds of colored powder that permanently plasters smiles on all the runners’ faces until the finish line. After the sun goes down and you can no longer see your happy faces, the Finish Festival ensures that everyone leaves happy. Now international, the color run takes place across the U.S.

The Zombie Run

Do you run faster when someone’s chasing you? Were you decent at flag football? Then you might have a chance at surviving the zombie-infested 5k. Located at various different cities, runners are equipped with “life flags” that they must preserve from the zombies who are trying to grab them. If you’re still living after your 5k, there’s even an after party to celebrate.

runDisney

“Making every mile magic,” the runDisney is a weekend event hosted in a number of different Disney Parks and is a great way to get the whole family involved. Fly through the finish line dressed as your favorite Disney character or just have a themed outfit, there’s a lot to see as your run your race. If you ever get tired during your run, don’t fear, the cast of Disney is scattered throughout the course to keep energy high. To help you get into the Disney spirit, the race also hosts the runDisney Expo that is filled with Disney merchandise.

Hot Chocolate 5k

The sweetest and one of the most crowded races, the Hot Chocolate 5k is here with a treat yo'self finish. One runners end their scenic run through the city of their choice they are treated to an award-winning goodie bag and the finisher mug full of the “best chocolate you’ll ever have,” which is also gluten, nut, and dairy free for everyone to enjoy. At the Post Race Party, participants can enjoy music and a family friendly kid-zone complete with bounce houses and games.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
