You thought it would be easy.

56 Thoughts That Occur During Pigskin Practice
Baylor University

It's one week until Homecoming, which means one week until the bonfire and the football game and the parade, and so on and so on. But most importantly, it's one week until PIGSKIN.

Like me, I'm sure many of y'all signed up believing it would be a great bonding experience with the new pledge class or maybe a chance to be involved with your chapter (since you might have already skipped three meetings, a philanthropy event and every SUB dinner there's ever been).

The people involved in Sing last semester looked like they had a blast, "it will be fun!" they said, "You'll catch onto 'Kappa arms' so quickly!" they promised. Now it's a week until you have to preform and you've realized you're in too deep, but there is no turning back from quite possibly the longest routine ever created by man.

Here are some thoughts while you're practicing:

  1. *walks into room* Why does it always feel so moist here?
  2. Oh good, I'm late...maybe the Sing chairs didn't notice.
  3. They noticed.
  4. I wish I was a lion. *watches lion dance* No, nope, no I don't.
  5. Aaaand it's my turn and I'm dancing and I remember the counts and things are good.
  6. Wait do I go up? Down? It's down, definitely down.
  7. Everyone went up, oops.
  8. Okay and I'm back-HIT! HIT! MOTION! MOTION!
  9. *gets yelled at for not making "Sing faces"*
  10. *makes "Sing faces"*
  11. I look like an idiot...
  12. Am I doing this move right?
  13. And I just punched someone in the face...hah sorry!
  14. Okay good it's the gazelle's turn, this means I can rest.
  15. Awwww they look so good!
  16. Wait, I'm supposed to be on the other side of the room.
  17. *running* *people staring* Ugh, sorry!
  18. WAIT, YES, THAT ONE DIRECTION SONG IS PLAYING!
  19. WAIT, THAT MEANS I SHOULD BE DANCING!
  20. WAIT, NO, I AM NOT DOING ANY OF THIS RIGHT!
  21. Is this a ripple? why is everyone down? I should probably know these counts.
  22. *avoids eye contact with Sing chairs*
  23. Oh good, formation change! Front row, let's do this!
  24. Hit motion on 1... I mean 3... I mean 5, okay it's 5, hit 5, I need to remember that.
  25. Kappa arms, more Kappa arms, even more Kappa arms, and now we're spinning. "WOOOOO" #sisterhood *sigh*
  26. AAAAANNDDD we're done.
  27. I'm alive... sort of.
  28. Survived Kappa arms with only one black eye and three broken fingers.
  29. *pant*...*pant*
  30. *still panting*
  31. I think that went well over all.
  32. Sing Chairs: "that did not go well at all"... Oh.
  33. If I never have to hear any of these songs ever again it will be too soon.
  34. I wish this mirror wasn't here...
  35. WOW I look BAD
  36. I'm sweating.
  37. Knees. Are. So. Bruised. Please. Send. Help.
  38. It smells.
  39. *remembers phone is stashed in frocket*
  40. *takes snap chat, captions somethings clever*
  41. *takes too long deciding on whether to use the filter that makes you look a slight shade of blue or the black and white filter, maybe the MPH filter, or the clock to show that its like 10 pm and you're still practicing* stress.
  42. *sticks with clock* Wait, am I sure though?
  43. Yes, okay this is good *sends to mass amount of friends*
  44. How do girls smell THIS bad??
  45. How do I smell THIS bad??? Eh, oh well.
  46. *avoiding eye contact with the sing chairs and mirrors* And we're running it again...
  47. Repeat thoughts 2-31.
  48. La la la, Oh look I'm in a room with all of my friends.
  49. *start talking to friends*
  50. *gets told to stop talking to friends*
  51. *starts whispering to friends*
  52. *too many hours later* I'm bored, which means I'm hungry, which means I'm tired. Can I go home yet?
  53. Should I lay on the floor?
  54. *examines dirty carpet*.... hard pass on that idea.
  55. *runs routine literally one million and two more times*
  56. *hits routine perfectly * *Doesn't cause anyone any physical harm* #swag

Even though Pigskin practice is not always the greatest place to be (or the second greatest, or third, or fourth... okay you get it), Pigskin truly is one of the best university events to be involved with at Baylor.

Also, coming together with a hundred of your closest friends to do a dance routine, when else are you going to get an opportunity like that?

So good luck to everyone participating in Pigskin! Go show your Mom and Dad what you've been working (werking* for some of us) on instead of studying. They're going to be so proud!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
