Going home is always such a privilege for me. Even though most of my friends are gone because we're old, I don't mind being there. I consider my parent's house a getaway from the stresses of school. They also have two dogs, which is a plus for my visiting. They're two of the most hilarious people I know, and I honestly wouldn't mind having a family just like they do some day.
When you leave your hometown, you realize how much you appreciate your parents. I call my mom at least twice a day, and I've never made a big decision without her. Even if I was completely independent, I wouldn't do anything without her approval. She knows exactly what to say and when to say it. She gives me tough love, which I sometimes really need. I wish everyone that read this article could meet my dad. He is single-handedly the funniest person I know. All he wants to do is smoke cigars, play golf and watch baseball. No joke, when I was in high school, people would come over to hang out with my dad. He's the coolest, and everyone knows it. Weirdly enough, everyone in my hometown actually knows my parents too. They own a pretty well-known business, and they've gained a lot of friends in the community. Let me put it this way, if my parents had a Twitter, they would have 10 times the followers I have now. Actually, they would probably have more than that. Sometimes I stalk their Netflix just to see what they've been watching. They gave up on "House of Cards" and now they're watching "Blacklist." They're still figuring out Netflix.
When I got to college, I really realized how funny my parents are. Especially when they're together. I also worry about them a lot more. I feel like I'm the parent, and I need to know what they're doing all the time. I almost asked my mom last week if she wanted to start using the "Find Friends" app on the iPhone, just so I would know where she is all the time, but they I asked myself if I would want her to know where I am all the time, and I decided absolutely not. She does not need to know how much Taco Bell I eat.
I love seeing my parents. They've taught me important life-long lessons that will stick with me forever, and I am so grateful. They're the only people who are always there for me and always will be. Yeah, sometimes my parents can get a little irritating to me. I'm sure I'm irritating to them sometimes too. They're there for a shoulder to cry on, when I need a donation to my bank account and just when I'm really missing them. They're always there, and I love them for it.
