My Obsession
The MBTI - aka the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator -- is a personality assessment I became obsessed with over two years ago. I have always been interested in the way peoples' minds work, and this quiz gives direct insight into that. If you take this quiz and aren't immediately convinced that you should drop Chem 101 or Engineering and become a psych major, then there's nothing else I can do.
Once I became obsessed with the test, I made my entire family and circle of friends take it. I even predicted what my two dogs would be (for the record, my Brittany Cocker Spaniel mix is a total ISFP and my German Shepherd was such an INFJ).
The MBTI can be used in many different formats by all kinds of people -- from businesses to a rando Cali girl (me) browsing Safari while watching her eighth consecutive Scandal episode.
So, let me break it down for ya: the MBTI is a 50-100 question test that can be administered online or on paper. A sample question would be, “I am detail-oriented Y/N." After filling out all of these yes or no questions and submitting your assessment, the computer will spit out a sequence of four letters that represent your personality type.
There are 16 possible combinations, and each letter corresponds to something different: Extrovert (E) vs. Introvert (I), Intuitive (N) vs. Sensing (S), Feeling (F) vs. Thinking (T), or Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P).
Each of the Categories Explained
Extrovert/Introvert: Do you get your energy from being alone and prefer to study without noises? You are probably more introverted. Do you get your energy from being around lots of other people and prefer to do your homework in a coffee shop? You are probably more extroverted.
Intuitive/Sensing: Do you like to look at the big picture? You are probably more intuitive. Are you more concerned with details and concrete facts? You are probably more sensing.
Feeling/Thinking: Are your actions motivated by your mind? You are probably more thinking. Are your actions motivated by your heart? You are probably more feeling.
Judging/Perceiving: Do you like deadlines and keep your room clean? You are probably more judging. Are you spontaneous and have a messy room? You are probably more perceiving.
Take the Test!
So now that you've read this article, predict your personality type and go take the test yourself! There are tons of great MBTIs on the Internet; a quick Google search and ten minutes of your time are all it takes to discover your personality type.
However, it is important to remember that personality characteristics are fluid. Someone can be 51% thinking and 49% feeling – so if you are a T don't think it means that you are never influenced by your emotions and vice versa. Also, just because two people have the same personality type doesn't mean they are exactly the same. However, if any ENFPs are out there reading this: WELCOME TO THE CLUB/FAM #RUSHENP MAMA LOVES YOU.
Happy personality hunting!
