And why they're not even worth attention.

Let’s cut to the chase, flaws are rubbish. They aren’t real, period. Flaws were created by the standards of media. From the Victoria’s Secret models, and the final products of actresses you see on the red carpet. If you aren’t 5’8” that’s a flaw, if you’re above it that’s a flaw. If you’re over 130 lbs, flaw. Under 100, flaw. Acne problems? Ew. Weird laugh? My god how do you even have friends. Notice that most to all of these things are usually out of our control.

To the people that criticize weight: an overweight person does not necessarily denote an unhealthy diet. Thyroid issues (metabolism) are common, and if we’re using our common sense, it’s easy to see that what is less expensive in the food industry is the unhealthy. Keep using that common sense, and recognize the hard truth that it is MUCH easier to gain weight, than to lose it, and people working full time jobs, or that have to take care of a family, or both, just don’t have the time to spend hours in the gym every day. To my readers: whether you’re under, average or over weight, if you feel good, then you are good.

To the people that criticize height: just why? Oh crap guys I’m 6’0” and female let me just drink this magic formula and shrink, no. Just like males, female heights differ. To the boys that hate on tall girls, sorry your ego is that fragile. To the girls that hate on short guys, sorry you’re that shallow. Bottom line, no one gets to choose their height so let people be happy with themselves. To all my short, average, and tall girls: own it like you’ve never owned it before. It only makes you all more beautiful.

Finally to the people that criticize acne: you are my least favorite. Especially the mother of the child that asked me “why do you have so many pimples all over your face?” and didn’t say anything to said child. Having acne is awful, and no one can downplay it. Constantly hearing “eat healthier, wash your face more, moisturize” blah blah blah. Acne is truly a health mystery, and those affected by it know that nearly nothing works (yeah Proactive sucks don’t waste your money, try a dermatologist). We do know that most acne is hereditary, but that’s about it. So before you want to call people dirty, or trashy, or ugly, because they have intense acne, take a moment to reflect that they probably can’t stand to look in the mirror most days because of how self-conscious they are about it. To my acne victims: demand eye contact, no one should be examining your skin anyway unless they have a degree in dermatology. Know that nothing lasts forever and there are easy fixes for scars.

Regardless of imaginary flaws, the important people are going to know that these stupid standards have no effect on your beauty, and those opposing just aren’t relevant anyway.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
