From time to time, we lose ourselves. There comes a moment where a life altering situation occurs, however big or small. You seem to be on the straight and narrow and all of a sudden - you stop and wonder who you have become. You begin to question who you are and where you are headed.
Sound the alarms.
It is so easy to get mixed up in your hectic and routine stricken lifestyle. It is truly a whirlwind. You ultimately have your sights on an end goal and are traveling faster than the speed of light to achieve what you truly want... or what you thought you wanted.
You take a moment to smell the roses... And BAM! It hits you like a ton of bricks.
Who am I? Where am I going? Am I happy?
You have lost yourself.
Now, we say lost like a lost pair of keys - an item you misplaced.
When you lose something, naturally, your first instinct is to retrace your steps in the hope to recover the item unscathed. You search the depths of your past just to recover what you are missing. You even turn to others, especially the people you love to achieve this. Same is to be said about losing yourself, we will always look in the last place we remember happiness.
Perhaps searching the dark corners of your past is not the answer. Maybe it is time to create a new path and close the door on the past.
Maybe you just realized the path you were going down no longer suits you.
It is critical to remember, despite how cliche it sounds, when one door closes, another will open.
Opening up the past might not be the best option, but it is difficult to look at the future head on. Truth be told, when someone is lost, sometimes they have no desire to be found. There are tremendous insecurities in the unknown.
Despite how open minded you may consider yourself to be, change is intimidating. When everything you know, believe in and wanted changes, you are entering uncharted territory.
This fear of the future is earth shattering.
Get lost in order to find yourself. It might sound counter-productive to lose in order to find, but it is the first step in finding yourself. When someone is stripped of all of their comforts and routines, they have no choice but to make the most of it.
In finding yourself, losing everything you thought made you is a necessary part of the process. In a way, this is the perfect opportunity to recreate yourself.
At the end of the day, the end goal you strive for should be happiness. If at any point in time you begin to question your happiness and your path, it may be time to do a little soul searching.
