I am a proud supporter of Bernie Sanders. From proposed healthcare reform to his plans for environmental conservation, I don't think there is a single thing he advocates for that I don't. However the Democratic National Convention looms on the horizon, and there are only 14 contests remaining in the primary election cycle. As of right now, Bernie Sanders is losing.
The media has been a challenge for Sanders since day one, evident when CNN declared Clinton the immediate winner of the first Democratic debate, despite numerous online polls reporting otherwise. Another example of the media's bias against Sanders would be when the Washington Post ran 16 negative articles about Sanders in 16 hours. All journalism has a bias but Sanders has faced more than his fair share. This is disheartening.
At this point in the race, Sanders is only a couple hundred delegates away from overtaking Clinton, however this is disregarding superdelegates. Superdelegates are delegates who can support whomever they choose at the Democratic National Convention; most are currently pledged to support Clinton.
From the media to the superdelegate count it can be hard to feel like my vote even matters. But it does! Sanders has maintained, time and time again, that he is taking his campaign all the way to the Convention. There may only be 14 primary elections left, but of those remaining are New Jersey, Oregon and California. These three contests have a huge amount of delegates up for grabs, California alone has 546!
So keep up the good work, Sanders supporters. Keep talking about his platform, register to vote in your state, and help others know their state's primary registration policy. Keep donating and keep making those Bernie Sanders Dank Memes.
Overall, keep remembering the progress we've made. His campaign has highlighted issues with the American political system. Bernie Sanders has paved the way for education and healthcare reform, he's stimulated discussion on racism and LGBT* issues, and none of this would have been possible without supporters like us. Even if Bernie Sanders does not win the democratic nomination for the presidency, he and his supporters have created a political revolution that cannot be stopped.
