Following nice guy Ben Higgins for the past three months on his search to find love has been both an emotional and humorous roller coaster ride. This season was filled with cheese and drama. And by that I mean viewers got to hear some pretty sappy stuff from Ben and saw a lot of drama ensue, particularly involving Lace and big mouth (literally) Olivia. But then again, "The Bachelor" is a big drama filled cheese fest every season it would seem like. This season, Ben was the guy we all wanted to fall for and love because he felt he was unlovable. He certainly won me over a bit with his cute smile and gentleman like qualities, but part of me still has a thing for Sean Lowe. Sean and Catherine will always be my favorite Bachelor couple.
This season’s finale was, as Chris Harrison always teases before the final episode, a shocking ending to Ben’s love story for some viewers. And personally, I was a fan of JoJo. There was no denying the chemistry between JoJo Fletcher, the real estate broker from Dallas, and Ben. And, one of the major reasons why I thought Ben would be sure to pick JoJo (besides the fact that Ben’s mom clearly liked her more) was because on numerous occasions, she was described as being a best friend. Everyone knows you always marry your best friend.
Nonetheless, and to many viewers’ dismay, Ben proposed to flight attendant, Lauren Bushnell from Portland. While there was also obvious chemistry between Ben and Lauren, it just didn’t seem like they had that best friend connection that Ben and JoJo had. Ben was certainly faced with a huge decision, and I honestly don’t know how one can decide that quickly about whom to propose to when you love two women. Ben’s decision came down to figuring out who he could not live his life without and that person for him was Lauren. Seeing the couple with both of their families in the "After the Final Rose" special, I have to admit, convinced me that they are a super adorable couple. All the best to Ben and Lauren.
There was good news for JoJo too. After seeing the heart-breaking moment when Ben tells JoJo she essentially isn’t the one, I genuinely felt so bad for her. I couldn’t even imagine being in a similar position. But, JoJo Flectcher will be the new Bachelorette and will get to have guys, who I’m sure will all be polished and handsome, competing to win her heart. Hopefully JoJo will find love this next time around. Overall, "The Bachelor" finale was emotional as always, but I for one am glad Ben decided to get down on one knee and was cured of unlovable syndrome.
