50 Things You Learn While Studying Abroad

While you're studying abroad you learn so many new things, half of which you do not even realize. Some things are learned as a result of mistakes while others come from wonderful times. Regardless of the circumstances, the lessons learned are ones that stay with you for the rest of your life. It seems only fair to share some of my favorites things with all of you.

1. RyanAir is the cheapest airline you'll ever fly on

2. Ryanair is the weirdest airline you'll ever fly

3. The Irish don't wear rain boots

4. Nobody is ever in a rush in Ireland

5. Nutella is a key food group

6. Only Americans go crazy for peanut butter

7. Never forget your umbrella

8. The pictures you take will never do the place justice. Don't forget to look at it without the camera.

9. Foreign children are the cutest children ever

10. Europeans know more about America than we do

11. Make sure you look the right way before crossing the street

12. Interact with the locals

13. Be independent

14. No place will ever be as comfortable as home

15. Being a little uncomfortable means you're learning something new

16. Figuring out public transportation in each new city becomes fun

17. Sleeping no longer requires it to be night or for you to be in a bed

18. Try each country's native food

19. Don't be ashamed to have Starbucks or McDonalds every once in a while

20. There's no cereal selection like America's cereal selection

21. No time is a bad time to drink

22. Remember you have to carry what you pack.... Often times much farther than anticipated

23. Packing right before leaving is possible

24. Leave room for souvenirs!

25. Getting through security becomes a game. You have to set a new record each trip

26. Never forget your visa check when flying RyanAir

27. Air bnb's are life changer

28. Spotify premium is so worth it

29. Always see the city you're in from above

30. Talk to people in bars

31. Be nice to bus drivers they can make or break you trip!

32. Trdelnik changes your life

33. Never stay in an Airbnb without reviews

34. Do not ever put your phone down in a taxi you may never see it again

35. Layers are always the way to go

36. Always make sure the water is safe to drink

37. Nowhere is as expensive as London

38. Ulmon maps are amazing when you have no wifi

39. Do not be ashamed to play games on your phone. It passes the time on buses and planes!

40. Bring plenty of walking friendly shoes

41. No matter how weird may be someone else's is 100% stranger

42. People in Spain smell amazing

43. Take advantage of beautiful weather but don't let rain spoil your day

44. You can sleep when your home. Adventures are worth it

45. Take advantage of all new opportunities

46. Student discounts are everywhere you just have to find them

47. Keep a journal! You won't want to forget the little things

48. Take time to explore the city you study in

49. Things may be expensive but the memories are worth it

50. The world is an amazing place. Once you catch the travel bug it never goes away. There's always more to see!

Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
