50 Things To Do When You're Bored

Something I have come to realize while at college is that you get A LOT more free time. Everyone always says you do, but you never really know until you experience it for yourself. Personally, I have about three or more hours in between all of my classes. Now, don't get me wrong. I love all the free time I have. However, sometimes it is hard to know what to do with your free time. Crazily, I have been at college now for almost two months. So, if you feel like doing the math (which I highly suggest you don't because I could not even tell you the amount of hours), you could guess that I have had a lot of time to do nothing and be bored. This being said, I have made a list of all of the things one can do while bored or you have free time.

1. Do nothing.

2. Watch Netflix movies.

3. Start binge watching something on Netflix. (I have done this and have started binge watching Secret Life of the American Teenager, and I am obsessed.)

4. Take a nap. (This is a good one.)

5. Join some clubs.

6. Join a sport, whether that be intramural, recreational, club, or collegiate.

7. Do your homework.

8. Do homework in advance. (I know this does not sound appealing, but trust me. Doing things ahead of time will benefit you later on. Take it from someone who has yet to pull an all nighter and goes to bed at like 10 every night.)

9. Make some food.

10. Eat some food.

11. Hang out with friends.

12. Study with friends.

13. Call your mom.

14. Text, call, or FaceTime friends from home.

15. Play with Snapchat filters.

16. Do your laundry.

17. Clean.

18. Do your nails.

19. Go on Tumblr.

20. Read a book.

21. Go through social media.

22. Hold your breathe for as long as you can.

23. Go to the gym.

24. Take a walk.

25. Eat junk food.

26. Take bad pictures of yourself and send them to your friends.

27. Listen to music.

28. Dance.

29. Sing.

30. Write an article about how bored you are.

31. Constantly continue to flip through your social media even though you just checked it and nothing is new.

32. Sit there and think about how bored you are.

33. Make weird noises.

35. Look at old pictures.

36. Go online shopping. (WARNING: This can get dangerous. As in I no longer have money on my debit card dangerous.)

37. Online window shop about things you want but are too poor to get.

38. Find new songs to listen to.

39. Make a new playlist.

40. Did I mention eat?

41. Sharpen unsharpened pencils.

42. Google weird things.

43. Google funny things.

44. See if you can touch your toes.

45. Lay on your back and flail your legs around because you have nothing better to do.

46. Look up motivation for getting in shape.

47. Eat some more food because it wasn't that motivating.

48. Take more naps.

49. Take a shower.

50. Look up dogs and cry about how much you want one.

There are probably so many more. These are just song things I have ended up doing. If you can tell, sometimes you get desperate when bored. Feel free to try out some of my suggestions. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go tell my roommate about how bored I am.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
