1. Eat a home-cooked meal.
After all the horrific and sometimes decent dining hall food, nothing beats eating a home-cooked meal. After a couple of months, microwavable dinners and Ramen just don’t cut it anymore. Your mom’s homemade chicken and pasta will have never tasted so good. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you later.
2. Spend time with your family.
Yes, you probably just went home for Thanksgiving break but let’s be real, that was only a couple of days. Definitely not nearly enough time to see everyone you would’ve liked to. This is especially true for family members. Your family loves you to death and want to hear all about your adventures in college. They get to spend very little time with you during the year so make breaks like these count. Watch a movie with your siblings, have lunch with your grandparents, tell your parents you appreciate them, and remember to say "I love you."
3. Throw a holiday-themed party with friends.
The holiday season is a perfect time to get together with old friends and reconnect after spending time apart. An ugly Christmas sweater party, a secret Santa gift exchange, a holiday movie night or any holiday-themed get-together will make your party a huge success. Plan a fun evening in (or out) with your friends and let loose; after all, you deserve it after all of your hard work this semester!
4. Go see Christmas lights.
If there’s one thing everybody associates with the holiday season, it’s Christmas lights. You can’t deny that your inner six-year-old shines through you whenever you drive around neighborhoods and look at all the houses decked out in lights and inflatable Santas. Gather up the fam or a group of friends and spend a night driving around and looking at lights and singing Christmas carols.
5. Sleep!
Last, but certainly never least… Sleep! It’s called a “break” for a reason. You have put in countless hours studying for midterms and finals, if you have a job then you’re most likely tired 24/7, any extracurricular activities you do take up time and energy and so sleep is definitely called for. Catch up on your sleep from all of those late nights studying at the library by sleeping in! Your body and mind will forever be grateful that your sleeping schedule is back on track, even if it’s only during the break.
