As summer 2016 approaches, the gyms become more crowded and the regrets rush in as we remember some of our poor eating decisions we made during the cold winter months. But with May coming in less than two weeks and beach season rapidly approaching, there is still time to get back on track, and I'm here to tell you how. Regardless if you are in it to get that summer bod back, or if you just want to create better habits in your life, here are some helpful tips on how to get a jump-start.

Tip #1: Set a goal.

I don't necessarily mean a weight goal. Set goals, both big and small, that you can track every week and month. Weekly goals may consist of eating one less fast food meal each week. Or a month goal may be to run for 20 minutes straight without stopping at the end of the month. Goals will help keep you both on track and motivated.

Tip #2: Pack your gym bag the night before.

Getting up to go to class in the morning is already hard enough, and now I'm telling you to go to the gym beforehand? WTF? Trust me on this. If you have class at 9 a.m., this is so doable. Wake up a couple hours earlier than normal to give yourself enough time. Pack you gym bag the night before so that when you wake up in the morning, you know you can jump out of bed, put on some shorts and run out the door (or maybe zombie walk, but regardless you're getting out there). Preparing the night before will make getting up and going so much easier at 6 a.m. than if you weren't even close to prepared. By the time your 9 am class comes you will feel pumped and ready to go. Plus, you already achieved more by 9 a.m. than everyone else in your class.

Tip #3: Download RunKeeper.

For the runners out there, you probably know about this very helpful and insightful app. It tracks your mileage, average time per mile, overall running time, and calories. It really helps to track your personal improvement and you can even set goals and connect with friends on Facebook through it. (Did I also mention that it's free?)

Tip #4: Skip the Big Mac.

I know. This is the last thing you want to hear. After a stressful day at work or school, nothing seems to make you feel better than scarfing down a huge calorie-filled, artery-clogging burger (sorry but that's the truth of it). Replace this with a healthier snack. A fruit loaded smoothie is such a healthy way to enjoy what you're eating. It's loaded with nutrients while also fulling you up (in such a good way). Try it out and after a few days, see how much better you feel after giving those Big Macs a kiss goodbye!

Tip #5: Get moving!

This one isn't too tough to figure out. Start getting your heart rate up on everything. Someone just pulled out of the first parking spot in front of Target and you are so tempted to pull into it. Don't. As painful as it may be, drive past it to the further one down the lot. That extra walking will not kill you; in fact, your heart and legs will thank you for it later. Promise.

Thanks for reading. Happy summer and get moving!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
