5 Ways to be Productive over Christmas Break

Well- it's that time of year again: Christmas Break. It is quite easy for us students to be temped to just sleep, stay in all day, and watch Netflix because the weeks leading up to breaks are often very hectic. Believe me, I've been home for 3 days and I have done exactly this. But this has also led me to fowling very bored very quickly, and missing the busy structure of college. This led me to think, how can I be productive over this break? What can I do that will not only save me from boredom, but also make me feel like I actually did something worthwhile over break? So this is what I came up with:

1. Get into a healthy workout routine

Nothing will make you more motivated to be productive over break than getting into a healthy workout routine. If you eat healthy and stay active, then you will be even more ready to do something fun rather than stay inside! And if you start a healthy routine over break then you will be more likely to continue this routine when you go back to school, which will give you more energy in your next semester!

2. Order your textbooks early

I mean, you're going to have to order them eventually, so you might as well get it over with now so you don't have another thing to stress about when you go back!

3. Start looking for things to do over the summer

Whether it's taking credit classes over the summer, finding a job or an internship, or making travel plans, it's much better to get some of those plans done now so you don't have to worry about them during the next semester while you have other classes and tests to think about on top of that! And because you have more free time now, you don't have to make rushed decisions on what you want to do over the summer, you can actually explore many options and find the best option possible for you!

4. Spend as much time with friends and family as possible

I know that it can be tempting to want to lock yourself in your room all day and not socialize with the outside world, but spending time with the people you haven't seen in a while will totally be worth it, since I'm sure you missed them when you were at school.

5. Relax!

Just because it's good to be productive over break does not mean it's not good to take time for yourself! It's okay to stay in bed a little later than usual, and it's okay if you want to have some alone time inside. But if you can have a good balance between productivity and relaxing, then this will be your best break yet!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
