5 Ways To Show Mom You Care This Mother's Day

Everyday my mom shows constant support, love, and kindness for me. My mother is the most selfless human being I have ever met; she gave up her job so she could be there for me to raise me. She makes sure to send me daily texts wishing me good luck on a test or just letting me know she's thinking of me. She would drop anything in an instant if she knew it would help me. She has given me more love and compassion than I could ever afford to repay her with. My mom is here for me everyday, so since Mother's Day is coming up, the least I can do is show her appreciation on that day. Not everyone can afford to buy their mothers a new car or house or everything they deserve, but anyone can give them something thoughtful and from the heart. I know the typical candle or lotion I normally get her is great, but it doesn't begin to sum up the way I feel towards my beloved mom, so I try to do thoughtful things for her on this day. Here are 5 inexpensive ways that you can make sure your mom knows she is loved.

1. Breakfast in bed.

This may be the most cliché idea in the world, but it is so sweet and is a simple gesture. My mom cooks for me everyday, the least I can do is repay the favor in a relaxing way.

2. Make her something special.

If you have any sort of talent (painting, writing, music, etc.) then make your mom a thoughtful gift relating to that. Draw and frame a photo of a place she loves. Write her a song. Write her a poem. Most mothers love to see their child do what they love and are good at, and here are ways to give her that.

3. Make something with photos.

Frame a photo of you guys. Make a collage. Make a slideshow of images and videos from you childhood with her favorite song playing in the background. Scrapbook. There is nothing most mothers love more than photos and memories of their children.

4. Take her somewhere.

Spend the day with her. Or give her a card telling her that you will do something with her on a specific date. I know my mom LOVES to spend time with me, so taking her out to lunch or treating her to a day in the city would make her so incredibly happy. Do something that you both enjoy and she will love it.

5. Write her a thoughtful letter.

Simply tell her how much you appreciate her in a card or letter. Pour your heart out. If you're not an emotional person, it is much easier to write it down then say it out loud, and your mom would love it!

If you are fortunate enough to have a mother that is there for you, do not take her for granted. Not everyone has that amazing privilege, so please give them the respect and love they deserve. Let her know how much you care everyday, but especially this day.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
