I've never been a fan of holidays where you have to tell someone you love them and do something nice for them such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and even Valentine's Day. Why does there have to be one day out of 365 when you remind the people that mean the most to you that you love them? Why can't you do something nice and special for someone without a holiday to remind you to?
In my opinion, your mom shouldn't have to be reminded on a single day out of the year that you appreciate her or that you love her. She should be reminded every day by your actions and respect for her.
Most college kids don't talk to their parents very often. They might talk to them once a week and see how everything is going back home, but that is the extent of the conversations they have while away at college. I am fortunate enough to be the complete opposite of that. My mom and I talk at least once a day and sometimes if I'm lucky, it's more than that.
My mom is always there for me either to give me advice or to listen when I have a crazy story to tell her. My mom always inspires me to do my very best and even though sometimes I fall short, she is always there to remind me of who I am and what I can accomplish. She reminds me of how special I am and how loved I am.
She reminds me to pray daily and to first seek Him. She reminds me to be strong and to work hard for what I want. Without my mom, I would be lost.
My mom has been there for every significant moment in my life. She worked hard to make sure I knew how loved I was and how important my dreams were. She and my dad worked hard to let me do every sport or activity I wanted to try, and they always encouraged me to do my best. They never told me I couldn't do something and were always there to cheer me on when I needed it the most.
They were there when I made the varsity team, they were there when we placed sixth in state, they were there when I moved into my freshman dorm and they are still here to watch me finish my second year of college.
Through every obstacle and hard time, I always know I can always count on my parents. They will be some of the only people in my life to love me unconditionally, and they remind me every day of what I someday want to be.
Because of my mom, I know who I am and who I want to be one day. She inspires me to reach for the stars, and I think that a woman this special deserves more than just one day to be reminded of how amazing she is. She deserves every day to be reminded of how loved she is and how appreciated she is. Sometimes I feel like I don't tell her enough how much she means to me, but Mom, you are amazing and I don't know where I would be without you.
