Global warming? Pfft. Who cares! It may not feel like winter yet, but don't let that stop you! There are many ways to get around your typical winter activities with weather like this. Lucky for you, I've listed some of the best ones.
1. Make a dirtman.
Now, I know this one sounds a little frightening, but bear with me here. You can't make a snowman without snow, so it's time for the next best thing. Go to your backyard, and dig a nice, big hole. If you need help with how big this should be, I'll just reference the movie "Holes," and say it should be, "a shovel deep and a shovel wide." Once you've got your nice pile of dirt, pour some water on it to make it muddy. Now it's your time to shine! Get creative and start building that dirtman. Actually, let's call this a dirt-person because it's almost 2016, right? Look for funky outfits in your family's closet to make your dirt-person even cooler. The best part is, your dirt-person won't melt, and Mom is guaranteed to not even care about the huge hole behind her house once she sees a figure made out of mud, wearing her clothes, starting at her from the backyard.
2. Set the thermostat in your house to 50.
Brr! It may be 70 degrees outside, but it's winter in your house! Have everyone chip in a little extra money for the bill, and blast that AC. In no time, you'll be seeing your breath. If you really want to go the extra mile, wear the thinnest layer of clothing possible. You'll be frantically looking for warmth just like you would if it were actually cold outside! Tis the season to be freezing! And when it gets cold enough that you want to light a fire, you won't have to! Save that firewood for the next winter, and gather around an open window with your family. You'll warm your frosty fingers and bond with your family at the same time.
3. Go pool skating.
Is it really Christmas without ice skating? Since there are no frozen ponds to nail your triple axel on, you can head on over to your local pool. Lace up those skates and jump in. Be wary of skaters around you, and avoid your first instinct to start swimming. That kicking motion with those skates does not make a good combination, nor does it give you that true ice skating feel. For this one, I suggest just letting yourself sink to the bottom and start walking around.
4. Go sledding.
A great winter activity is sledding. Don't let the lack of snow stop you! Grab your trashcan lid and find the biggest hill in your town. Much like the wooden roller coaster vs. steel roller coaster feel, the dirt you'll sled on will have a much bumpier ride, which only adds to the thrill of it. Take a couple friends and have a race! It Doesn't even matter that there's no fluffy snow for you to land in, should you fall off, because grass stains are always in season.
5. Declare your own snow day.
Call into work one morning and tell your boss you can't make it in because the streets are covered and no one plowed your driveway. Hang up before they have the chance to respond. Then, call your younger siblings' school and tell them that the roads are too icy, and it's unsafe for busses to be out. Bam! You just made your own snow day.
Spend your DIY snow day doing typical snow day things like: watching movies, worrying about if the power is going to go out, checking to see if you have enough milk and bread if something happens, and drinking hot chocolate. The lighthearted stuff. Don't forget to keep up with appearances, for this one. If your friends want to hang out with you, act like they're insane for leaving the safety of their homes. If you really want to go the extra mile, borrow your Mom's credit card the night before, and tell her you're just going to go to the grocery for her. Then head on over to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a backup generator. Just to be safe, buy a few backups for your backup. She may be angry, but she'll take comfort in knowing she's safe on this snowy day.
Now that you've completed all your winter activities -- sit back, relax, and enjoy this warm holiday.
