2017 flew by before my eyes, and that means the end of the year, which means Thanksgiving and the holiday season. With Thanksgiving being tomorrow, I'm home from school for a week, which allows me to reflect on what I'm thankful for. But I'm not listing what you would usually be thankful for, for example, your dog, your own bed, and home-cooked meals. These are the unusual, out of the ordinary, little things that make or break a college student's day. Who knows, they may help you out big time.

1. Pay by phone food apps

Being college students, we are stripped for cash. We may have jobs, but unfortunately, they don't pay us in cash anymore. And we're either too lazy to hit up an ATM, or our bank accounts consist of $0.68. So when our stomachs grumble, we have nothing else to turn to but an app for that Starbucks or McDonald's craving using a simple tap of a button.

2. Venmo

A complete lifesaver. Paying in cash can become such a pain, and I don't know about you, but personally, I like seeing more cash in my wallet. So if you ever need to pay someone back for gas, that late night pizza, or "juice" (you know what I mean), Venmo is the way to go. You can pay that friend back with the tap of a finger, and I don't know what I would do without it.

3. Disney Movies

I'm a kid at heart, no shame. All I want is to snuggle up in my own bed and have a Disney movie marathon. For the whole day. I would have no problem watching movie after movie if it means that I don't have to leave my warm, cozy, safe haven of pillows and blankets. Plus, who doesn't like Disney movies?

4. Coffee

Ok, ok, I know this is cliche, but seriously. Without at least a cup of coffee, I could not function. It gets me ready for the long day ahead of me, and it makes me happy. Coffee is a wonderful addition to the pages of work in front of me, so why wouldn't I want it? It gets me pumped, hyped, and makes me feel like I can take on anything that's blocking my path. Plus, it's delicious.

5. Spotify

How else would we drown out an obnoxious gum chewer or your annoying sibling? Spotify is the answer. Creating your own playlist of favorite music and listening to it on repeat for a student discount of only $10 a month can't be beat. After all, music is our best friend when finals season rolls around.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
