Whether you're at a quarter system or semester system school, the weather is getting warmer and you find yourself dreaming of summer days on the beach. As always, though, you're going to have to work for those days of relaxation during the summer, and around this time, that means studying for and taking your final exams. This can be quite the daunting task, especially as you look back on the semester and regret those classes you skipped to study for other classes, or simply because you needed a personal day. Regardless of where you are in the study process, here are some tips that are sure to help you do your best!
1. Self Control
I know I certainly don't have much of it. Facebook, Instagram, Netflix - they're all major distractions, and sometimes, telling myself that I need to study just doesn't do it for me. Enter Self-Control, an app that blocks a list of websites for a given amount of time. Even if you try quitting the program or restarting your computer, you can't access your websites for the given time you enter. Download it here: https://selfcontrolapp.com/
2. Brain Food
As much as you want to, getting a giant Chipotle burrito delivered to the library to reward yourself probably isn't the best plan. You need fuel to study, but it's more important than ever to eat healthy when you are physically and mentally stressed. Bring some fruit and a protein bar to the library with you for that mid-afternoon slump, and make sure your meals are a good mix of vegetables, starchy carbs, and protein.
3. Hydrate
I'm one of those people who is constantly drinking water. On the off chance I leave my bottle somewhere, I feel naked and lost without it. I find it pretty easy to drink about a gallon of water, which is about four liters/day. Even if it means you're getting up every hour to relieve your bladder and/or fill up your bottle, you're moving around, which is good for you! Also, stress tends to make people break out, and even if your appearance isn't your top priority right now, water is the key to clear skin.
4. Exercise
I'm sure the gym is the last thing on your mind right now, but getting in some physical activity will do wonders for your studying. You'll be more awake, more focused, and it's easier to absorb information. Being cooped up in the library all day isn't good for you, so get out and get your sweat on before, after, or as a break in the middle of your study sessions. Plus, being physically tired makes it much easier to sleep, which brings me to my next point.
5. Sleep
It's dead week, and no have no classes. You can literally study ALL day, which means you have time to get your 8 hours of sleep a night. I guarantee you that if you're trying to decide between more studying and sleeping, sleeping is always the best choice. You retain the information better, and perform better on the exam - there is no question about it.
