Working for some isn’t fun in general, add the fact that some of those shifts are slated for weird hours in the day. Three or four in the morning is not an ideal time to work. Yes, coffee is probably the go to when it comes to being tired and waking up, but there are other solutions to avoid the caffeine.

1. Get some sleep!

This one might be obvious, but it’s true. You tend to get less sleep when you need to wake up earlier. It’s best to make your bedtime earlier, and while it might seem weird to go to bed when the sun’s out, it will benefit you in the long run. So put the phone down and get some shut eye!

2. Always have water, and a snack.

Water is essential for the body and it helps you stay hydrated. Make sure you keep a water bottle near your desk for those early mornings, and don't forget it. Also make sure you have some sort of snack or breakfast at work, occupy your mind with what people love the most, FOOD!

3. Occupy your mind

Keep yourself going always. Do not stop working. If you keep moving and don’t stop, there is no time to think about how tired you are. Once we start working less that is when we get tired and make more mistakes. Don’t let that happen to you.

4. Have something to look forward to in the day

It is always best to have something to look forward to in the day, whether it be a nap, or lunch with a friend. Whatever the situation, if there is a reason to be awake that day it’ll make it easier to get through the day.

5. Become good friends with your co-workers

Your co-workers are working the same weird hours, so take the time to get to know them. There could be a connection beyond just working together that has yet to be discovered. Work hard and become friends, it will help with getting through the shift.

Of course, there will always be those days when you may need a little bit more, whether it be some coffee, or just a relaxing day after work, and that’s okay. No one is ever prepared to work the morning shift or weird hours, but it does not have to be a miserable time. If you’re a young person, there's a good chance you won’t be at this job forever, so don’t be disheartened and down, because of your shift. To those who have the morning shift: may positive vibes always be with you while you work your weird hours.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
