As the new school year begins, students are filled with excitement, expectations, anxiety and temptations. Whether you are a freshman or you're finishing up your last semester, all of these emotions are fluttering about in your head. Syllabus week can and should be a breeze, no matter where you are in your college career. Here are some tips to make the most of your syllabus week and still be successful:
1. Time management is key
Although you might not have a heavy workload, spacing out your time between getting to know all of the requirements for each class and being a social butterfly is important for staying on top of your game.
2. Use a planner
To go along with time management, a planner will soon become your best friend. Making sure that you have everything organized in your planner, including assignments and other important dates, will help keep you on track as you begin the new year.
3. Get to know other people
As simple as that may seem, meeting new people around campus and networking with other students will benefit you greatly. As a freshman, this is your opportunity to make friends that may just last you a lifetime.
4. Don't be too tempted
Syllabus week can be a tempting time to binge drink and engage in other risky activities. No matter what age you are, there is always going to be some sort of pressure to partake in these activities, and if you choose to do so, just be mindful of your own health and safety. As always, have fun, but do so responsibly.
5. Explore
Get to know your surroundings, find out where important places are on campus, try new foods, pick up a hobby, get to know the town and explore whatever else your heart desires! This is a time for you to enjoy yourself and the people around you, so make the most of it!
With these five tips in mind, you will be able to conquer syllabus week. Starting off on the right foot will point you in the direction of success for the rest of the semester!
