The love of your life could be living in any part of the world. Have you ever thought about how you could achieve a long-distance relationship? Listed below are what I think to be the five most important tips to sustaining a healthy long-distance relationship.

1. Communication

You want to make sure that you and your partner are effectively communicating. Nowadays, we have different social media platforms to communicate on, smartphones where you can text, call, FaceTime, Skype, or even ooVoo. You do want to creatively communicate regularly, but should avoid excessive communication. Give each other time to miss one another. If you're talking 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you're bound to burn out really fast. The worst thing would be to become bored of one another.

2. Setting Ground Rules

Setting ground rules is very important. You and your partner need to establish what you will and will not accept. Define your commitment level. Is this relationship more monogamous or open? You don't want any surprises. This should be done immediately to avoid conflicts down the road.

3. Visit Each Other

This is a necessity. You can't hope to achieve a successful relationship is never get to see your partner.

4. Have a Common Goal

What are you guys trying to achieve out of this relationship? The seriousness of the relationship should be established first. But, you want to make sure that you both want the same thing. You don't want it to be set up as you want something exclusive with one day hopes of moving in together and getting married and your partner just wants someone to vibe with every now and then when they're in town. Having a common goal is key and will spare feelings.

5. Honesty!

Honesty is actually one of the keys to being successful in life period. Being several miles away from your partner, you guys must maintain trust. In order to maintain a trusting healthy relationship you must always remain honest. Seriously who would want to be with someone who they can't trust, especially when they're miles away from you.

There are probably a hundred tips for having a successful happy long-distant relationship, these five are what I consider to be the most important. These tips should all be established and defined before you and your partner make any further steps. Good luck!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
