5 Times Mindy Lahiri Was Your Spirit Animal

5 Times Mindy Lahiri Was Your Spirit Animal

1. When she accurately described most of your weekend nights (the ones you don’t post on Instagram)

Let’s be real. Despite what my social media might display, I don’t spend every minute of my life dolled up in make-up, sorority squatting, and sticking out my skinny arm. In reality, squeezed in between those artsy foodie posts and the “candid” pictures of me and my best friends laughing at how amazing our lives are would be pictures of me sitting on the couch, binge watching Netflix, with a bottle of wine propped up against my leg.

2. You tried to pull off the cute, grungy look and actually just ended up getting concerned looks from friends and strangers

You know we’ve all done this. We saw that one girl in class who rolled in wearing sweats with a messy bun and those glasses you aren’t sure are prescription or not claiming she “just rolled out of bed like this.” She made it look so effortless. So the next morning, I rolled out of bed, threw on some sweats and strode confidently out the door.

That confidence lasted until I happened to catch a glance of my reflection in a store window. Turns out that guy I thought might’ve been checking me out might’ve have actually been staring in disgust. I quickly came to find that just rolled out of bed actually meant spending 25-40 minutes looking like I just rolled out of bed. Just go and take a shower people. The only person who can rock this look is Beyoncé.

3. When she summed up pretty much every dating experience you’ve had in college

It happens. You lock eyes with a guy across the room. You check him out and after receiving your friends’ approval, begin to make your approach. He walks towards you, he’s so cute you almost can’t believe its happening. And then he opens his mouth, and it’s all over almost as quickly as it began.

Whether it’s the guy who finds almost every reason to bring up his ex or the guy who still thinks being rude is the correct way to flirt, the college dating pool does not necessarily house the most prime specimen. But don’t worry girl, you’ll get ‘em next time.

4. She defended your rights

I am so tired of girls who pretend to be allergic to food the moment a guy appears. What’s so wrong with being a lady with a healthy appetite? The fact that I can eat an entire Chipotle burrito and chips combo in one sitting is probably one my proudest achievements. Yes I eat. Yes I love chicken wings. Yes I love pizza. No I don't hate salad. I love it, I accept it, I embrace it and you should to.

5. She was 100% unashamedly herself, and it was fantastic

My absolute favorite thing about Mindy Lahiri is her total commitment to the person that she is. Despite eccentricities and defiance of the norm, you can tell that she really loves herself and is comfortable with the person that she is — even if other people aren’t. As cliché as it seems, it’s hard to let people in if you don’t truly love the person that you are. Everyone should learn who they are and love that person. Once you’ve done this, nothing or no one else can bring you down.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
