As the Fourth of July concluded, it begins to hit us. That startling realization that beach days and endless nights are just starting to dwindle. Just like that, summer is suddenly nearing its conclusion when it just seemed like it began.
So, how did we get here? Here are five thoughts I have about the matter:
1. Where did June go?
I thought yesterday was May? Personally, June felt like it came and went in the blink of an eye and before I could even register that July 4th was approaching. Alas, the shirt I ordered too late with the classy expression "Red Wine and Booze" came a day after the spirited holiday.
2. Does this mean I have to do homework soon?
It's always exciting to get back to campus and reunite with everyone after three months. It's not as exciting to begin classes and start spending long nights in the library.
3. I need to get tan ASAP.
Realizing a large chunk of summer has flown by also means the realization that your golden glow is not at the level you would like it to be. The next thought probably involves mentally circling days dedicated to the beach.
4. How much money have I made?
Summer is for down time and lazy days, but it's also for finding a job or internship to make some money, whether its for abroad endeavors or bar nights where you inevitably spend every dollar you bring out with you.
5. I better appreciate home cooking while I can.
Before long, dining hall meals and poor attempts at cooking will make you wonder why you didn't cherish whatever you were served by your more skilled parent.
