Everybody loves Christmastime. I mean, come on. What's not to love?
Is it just me though who isn't obsessed with Christmas? I'm not in a codependent relationship with the holiday and that is A-Okay with me.
Here's what you'll inevitably recognize if you're like me.
1.Thanksgiving is NOT "Pre-Christmas"
You appreciate the holiday for feasting and giving thanks just as much sometimes even more than Christmas. As a college student especially you can't wait to get home for a whole week and see your family, not have any assignments, and all that food... it's a dream. Autumn is also beautiful and deserves the respect as not being labelled "pre-winter".
2.December 1st is NOT "Christmas First"
Thanksgiving just ended and it is waaay too soon to say Merry Christmas. If you live in the south it's not even cold yet, and the weather is far from frightful so put a hold on the carols.
3.Holiday Drinks Are For The Holidays
Starbucks' holiday coffee flavors like the peppermint mocha, gingerbread, and eggnog much like the Pumpkin Spice Latte and the Frappula from Halloween are a lot better closer to their actual holidays, am I right? So is eggnog especially spiked. That's not quite a drink just for December 5th on a Thursday afternoon.
4.Not All Traditions Are Mandatory
Sure, you'll help decorate the tree and you'd love to watch the animated Christmas specials. Maybe not every single time that "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" is on and hanging lights across the roof feels a little excessive. Hot chocolate every night and we have to decorate the dorm too? You love all of the little touches that help make the holiday great but you certainly thrive if everything isn't red and green for 30 days.
5.You Still Appreciate The Little Things
Even though you and Christmas have more of a friends with benefits situation you still love the little activities that go along with it like buying presents for your roommates and/or loved ones, looking at Christmas lights and trees around campus and at home, any holiday activities on campus, and more. Eating Christmas dinner with your family and trying out all of your new gifts makes you excited for the new year and so happy that everyone who is fervently obsessed with Christmas as the end all be all holiday are at least a bit more tolerable until next year.
