It's the holiday season, and for the most part people are headed home for the holidays. Now, most people are pretty lucky and don't have to travel more than a few hours here or there to get home, but there are the few unlucky ones that have quite aways to go - myself included. Traveling alone can be great - no annoying family members to piss you off, you only have to worry about yourself and you can fully prepare yourself for all the activity and interrogation that comes with going homes. However, when you travel alone you really start to learn things about yourself that you never really knew before.
1. How patient you really are
If you know anything about airports, you know that they require an amazing amount of patience. No matter when you're traveling or how short the trip, chances are that there is going to be at least one annoyingly long line (TSA I'm looking at you), or someone to really test your patience.
2. Self-Confidence
You learn a lot about yourself when flying, and one of them is your own self-confidence. You need it, because otherwise there is no way you would walk up to that stranger and ask them where Terminal A - it just wouldn't happen.
3. How adventurous you can get
This is more for when you travel further distances, and when you have layovers in random countries. Thankfully, all airports have an english translation of the signs right under whatever airport you're in, but sometimes thats about it. You try different foods, see different things, and if you're traveling alone for a long time, you're gonna want to meet new people at least for a little bit so you don't die of isolation and boredom.
4. How tolerant you really are
Kind of like how patient you are, you need tolerance when traveling alone. Because chances are there are going to be at least 5 people that will make you want to lose your sh*t. Guaranteed.
5. Resentment towards how far home is
You love your parents. No one is questioning that. But having a bit of resentment towards then for living so far away - or yourself for going to school so far away is normal. And chances are, you'll be thinking about it throughout the entire trip - especially when the person that makes you want to lose your shit is around you. It's when you wish teleportation was a very, very real thing.
