Having your mother or father be your principal can be a completely different school experience than you may have ever imagined. There are many pros and cons of this. But trust me, the pros way outweigh the cons. Here are some things that a principal's child will definitely know to be true.
1. You constantly feel like your parent is breathing down your neck.
You see them at school, you live with them at home, you're always together on weekends. You seem to have the only parent who knows how to work Skyward, or whatever online grading system was being used. Accidentally missed turning in a small assignment? You can bet you'll either be called into the office, have a stern talk at home, or maybe both. For me, it was usually both. But this was a good thing! I definitely thought twice before ever doing half-ass work.
2. No one tells you any of the good gossip or invites you to anything fun.
Because let's face it, they all assumed you would snitch. You knew you wouldn't, but no one believed you. So because of that, you missed out on house parties and games of RAMBO. You felt left out, like a reject, or even... the Teacher's Pet. I used to think that it was the worst thing in the world. But looking back, you really don't feel all that sad, though. You never got arrested or even a ticket, so that's good!
3. They would talk to your teachers when you were having trouble in class.
This may seem like a bad thing, but it can also be a good thing. Yes, it was kind of embarrassing when your mom paid a visit to your third-grade classroom because you couldn't do your multiplication tables fast enough, but it turns out that you weren't the only one needing help, and a talk from the principal pushed your teacher to give extra help. But... that also made you look like you went home and complained (which I definitely did, but who needed to know that!).
4. You felt like you ruled the school.
So maybe not in the sense of Regina George, but you could do almost anything and not get in trouble. No one wanted to be the one who sends the Golden Child to their parent's office. I remember sitting on the office main desk in the second grade and the secretary's not saying anything. Looking back, I now realize how disrespectful I was. Back then, I truly believed that I was the coolest thing ever.
5. You wouldn't have changed it for the world.
You were the most dressed up for spirit days, you knew all of the teachers' first names, and you were the badass who could never get in trouble. Having your parent as your principal may have seemed like a bad thing, but you know deep down you wouldn't have had it any other way. You knew all of the drama with the staff and students and could always negotiate to get those few extra points in class. Being the principal's kid was actually pretty great.
