Summer: it's finally here for the lucky few and just on the horizon for the rest. No break is more yearned and planned for doing a student's school career, and honestly, it can get a little ridiculous how many countdowns there are for it (I think we are all guilty of this). But now that it's here there are just a few things that have to be accomplished before the summer can really begin.
1. Lay on your own bed.
I don't care if it's only for five seconds or for an entire night, the first thing I do is just collapse onto my bed. No matter how hard you try there will never be an equal to your own bed at home.
2. Say hello to the pets.
Now I know this does not apply to everyone but for those that it does this is a particularly important step. I don't think there is a greater homecoming then getting to cuddle with the animals that you have been missing for the past few months.
3. Eat a home cooked meal.
I know it's been said before but cafeteria food gets really old, really fast and after living off of it for so long there is nothing like a home cooked meal. Even if that meal is not necessarily your favorite, it still beats anything that you had during school.
4. Take a shower.
Who knew that being able to shower without shower shoes would be such a luxury? Seriously, it doesn't really matter how good or bad the shower is, the fact that I don't have to wear shoes makes it the best shower ever (plus it just feels nice to be clean).
5. Hang out with friends.
As good as it feels to be home if you stay cooped up there the entire summer you will get cabin fever. So get outside the house, hang out with the friends that you haven't seen in months. But most importantly enjoy the summer break while it lasts, we all deserve it.
