Good afternoon, all of you beautiful mothers. The new school year is right around the corner and to be honest, I couldn't be happier. I am the proud mother of a six-year-old and a four-year-old and both are going to school this year. (Insert insane worship service applause here.) Now, before I cue the confetti, I'm going to give a shout out to all my fellow mothers to let you know that I am right here with you, Mama. I'm listing a few relatable truths concerning the common mother, just to remind you that you are not alone. Well, maybe it's just to remind me and that's OK, too!
1) The Common Mother owns a messy home, but she's a boss at 20-minute clean-ups when the phone rings and Great Aunt Sally decides it's time to pay a visit on the fly. Or, my personal favorite, when there is no warning call and an unexpected knock at the door sends me into ninja mode.
2) The Common Mother may just have the best resume' in the world. I mean think about it, the skill section of that thing would be like 90 pages long just in itself. What can't we do? We've played referee, chef, maid, designer, coach, doctor, nurse, assistant. Not to mention that carrying a baby on one hip while holding the hand of a crying toddler, unlocking the house door all the while loaded down with two arms of grocery bags, should be able to quickly dismiss any other questions. Hands down.
3) The Common Mother knows what's it's like to fish out an ungodly amount of items from the toilet. That new necklace you just bought? Oh, you forgot and left it within eyesight of a 2-foot tall plumber. Yep, it is now swimming with one of the Avenger action figures. By the way, that's a lovely set of car keys you have there, it would be a shame if someone were to mistake them for toiletries.
4) The Common Mother has heard every excuse known to man as to why her kids must get out of bed 500 times before actually falling asleep at night. Thirst, hunger, and the full bladder always team up at bedtime. We also can't forget about all of the questions that need to be answered before they can drift away to LaLa land.
5) The Common Mother knows how to love deeply. Sure, all of the sleepless nights and all of the tears shed (between you and your children), are plenty, but they are also worth it. Before these little ones entered your life, you had no idea this kind of love existed. And before having these little blessings, you couldn't fully relate to Gods love for you. Now that you understand what its like to be a parent and how it feels to love your child so infinitely, you understand just why Christ did what He did on the cross for you.
