5 Things To Do Over Spring Break If You’re Not Going Away

Because we can't all go to Cancun.

Let’s face it: as college students, we’re basically all ballin’ on a budget. With this being said, it’s not always entirely realistic to participate in the type of spring break everyone dreams of, or that they show in the movies. Something kind of like this:

And while we all wish we were going to Cancun or Miami or wherever else, here are some other things to do while you’re living vicariously through your friends SnapChats and Instagrams.

1. Try new recipes!

I’m sure you’ve scrolled through Facebook and have seen hundreds of BuzzFeed food videos of recipes you drooled over. This week off is a perfect time to try some out (and let me know which ones work best)!

2. Pick a show you’ve never seen before and watch it in its entirety.

I have this school break ritual in which I always do this. One summer, I watched all of How I Met You Mother. Another year, I watched (and sobbed) over the then-twelve season of Grey’s Anatomy. Now, it’s your turn. Occupy yourself with a new show and dive right into it!

Suggestions: Grey’s Anatomy, FRIENDS, Stranger Things, The OA, Supernatural

3. Work-out or go for a run every day (or at least try)

Personally, working out is the root of all evil. I hate being at the gym, I hate even thinking about working out. But as someone who is also training for a half-marathon (shout-out to my boyf, Tom) I run three days a week. Use this break to maybe try to do the same! Running has actually helped me feel more energized throughout the day, and is also helping me stay in shape since the thought of the gym makes me sad.

4. Sift through your piles of clothes and donate them.

If you don’t have one of these, honestly I’d say you’re lying. But regardless of the infamous chair, use this week off to help those who need it! Look through the clothes that you impulsively bought, and have never worn, and donate them! You’d be surprised just how many t-shirts you don’t need.

5. Have a Disney movie marathon.

This doesn’t really need an explanation. Disney is undoubtedly the greatest way to spend your spring break, whether you’re in Orlando/Anaheim or sitting on your couch watching the classics. Only some are available on Netflix, but if you’re like anyone else in this world, you have a link to a movie site. Sit back, relax, and watch the magic of Disney again.

Here are just some ideas.

Happy Spring Break!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
