Everyone goes through those days where you feel like your world is falling apart. The ups and downs of life can sometimes feel unbearable but there is an upside. Things, although it will take time, will come back together. Being away at college, you feel so far away from the familiar environment you once knew. You no longer have the friends and family right by your side. You have to learn how to cope with your struggles alone and it can be difficult. Here is a list of things to do on a day where you just don't feel 100% alright:
1. Grab some coffee
The phrase "coffee is bad for you" should be thrown out the window. Where does one go when there's no one to talk to? The only answer is to the nearest Starbucks or Dunkin to grab an XL mocha latte. If you're feeling a little risky, get a pump of expresso to feel invincible. Coffee is there when no human being is or when your pets won't hangout with you.
2. Read a book
I personally didn't get into reading until recently. I always hated summer reading and being assigned boring books to read for English class drove me insane. Lately, I have noticed that sitting down and forgetting about the world you're currently living in and going to this made up story world. There is something so satisfying about projecting yourself into a story where you can watch everything happen. The vivid imagery and selective dialog can zap you into a storyline you don't actually have to live through.
3. Binge watch your favorite tv show or movie
Who cares that you've already watched every season of Sons of Anarchy or sat through all 8 Harry Potter movies. If that show or movie makes you happy, watch it 20 more times. Just because you can quote every line or sing the entire soundtrack doesn't mean you won't still laugh at the corny jokes or cry every time a vital character dies.
4. Write
I have learned that writing down everything I am thinking is extremely beneficial. When you want to shut the world out, it is helpful to vent without having a face staring back at you. Words on a page or on a secret blog let you speak about what's on your mind but not have to worry about the judgment that may come with it. Venting can be scaring and being vented to can be just as frightening. Sometimes you just need to talk and these feelings are okay. Sometimes it's better when you can just speak and know no one is listening.
5. Remember that everything is going to be okay
Life is hard. Everyone goes through struggles but those end up making us who we are forever. Our pasts mend our futures so every person or memory, happy or sad, will make you a better person. These journeys will hurt when they are happening but the lessons we learn will only help in the long run. The breakups will show how to handle losing those you thought meant everything, the arguments will demonstrate how to handle your anger and grudges. Take everything as a lesson and remember that rough patches don't last forever. So, even when your world feels like it is crashing down, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And you are strong enough to make it.
