Coming to the realization that not all of us can be lucky enough to afford a tropical vacation to somewhere outrageously beautiful, and it sucks. But life is all about dealing with what you’ve got, so this summer I encourage you to do just that! There are endless possibilities for exploring and creating yourself throughout your time off during the summer, so embrace it. And incase your stuck on how to do that, I’ve created a list of 5 things you can do.

1. Stop Thinking Negative Thoughts About Yourself Or Others

During the school year and work week, we are constantly surrounded by people of all different background and beliefs. It is so easy to get caught up in a judgmental lifestyle and to begin picking out all of the bad things in others and even yourself. This summer, work on bettering your attitude and begin to see the good in others no matter the circumstances.

2. Don’t dwell on the past.

Summer is a great time for a fresh start and to let go of the past. Dwelling on the past is a very time consuming task and does not cause any positive emotions. The past is called the past for a reason. It’s behind you, and there’s no point in thinking about it now. Instead, focus on the future and all the great opportunities ahead of you!

3. Enjoy the little things in life.

We tend to get caught up in daily life, causing us to miss things that are special. Find joy in things that truly matter, and be thankful for the life you were given. Most times in life, the little things end up being the big things.

4. Stop putting things off.

During the school year we are all crazy busy, giving us an excuse to put things off that feel less important. Now is the time to stop putting things off and instead of binge watching The Bachelorette, (I’m totally guilty of this), get that pesky little task on your to-do list done. Once you have completed everything, you can sit back, relax, and get back to binge watching!

5. Remember all efforts you are making now, will pay off in the end.

Even though you could be a couch potato the whole summer, remember that all this “hard” work to better yourself will pay off. Your well being is way more important than focusing on negative energy. Learn to love yourself and others and remember to always be kind to others.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
