Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away, and in the midst of all of the papers and exams of the semester, it can sometimes be a struggle to find something for which to be thankful. Here's a short list of just a few things you could be thankful for this November.
1. Family
In college, it can be hard to see your family, and they may be hundreds of miles away, but no matter the distance, family is family. They will always be there for you and they are only a phone call away. Be thankful that your mom badgered you about grades because it means she cares enough to ask. Be thankful that your brother calls you names because it means that he thinks about you often. Despite being hours away from your family, take some time this November to be grateful for the family you have.
2. Education
College can be a drag with all of the piled-on stress of studying, doing homework, volunteering, working, working out, and trying to maintain a social life. It constantly seems as if you're being pulled in a thousand different directions. However, when the stress becomes overwhelming, take a second to breathe and be thankful that you're one of the lucky people of the world who can go to college. Many young adults around the world can only hope for the opportunity you have. So, if the schoolwork gets difficult to manage, just remember you're being challenged and learning new things every day in order to better yourself. Be thankful!
3. Roommates
They live you 24/7, so they know who you really are. Be thankful that they are there for you in your tough days, be thankful that they are always willing to offer a pick-me-up, and be thankful that they can be some of the most encouraging people in your life.
4. Food
If you have a campus meal plan, this can be a hard one. Although it is not the home-cooked meal your mom makes you, be thankful that you don't go hungry. If that's not enough, be thankful that you'll be home in just a few short weeks for Thanksgiving Break so that home-cooked meal can become a reality.
5. Friends
Be thankful they stick by your side, be thankful they are always willing to get late night Buffalo Wild Wings, be thankful that they give you their honest opinion of your outfit. Be thankful for the truly wonderful friends you have because you won't remember the biology test you took freshman year, but you will remember all of the times you laughed until you cried. Friends are what make college memorable and worthwhile.
These are just a few of the things that I'm thankful for, and regardless if this list applies to you or not, I challenge you to find 5 things that you're thankful for and say a great, big "thank you!" for as many things as possible this month!
