In college sometimes it is easy to lose focus on what we are thankful for. Here are a few that I believe college students (and anyone else for that matter) can all agree that we are very thankful for.
1. Family
Obviously. College students have to be thankful for our families, who else can we vent to about horrible teachers, bad days, failed friendships, and our urge to want to drop out every week without feeling harsh judgement? Family is only a text message, phone call, or long drive away- either way they are always there for us. They are also the perfect people to share all of our achievements with. They want to see us succeed. Sometimes if we talk too much about our success to our peers, it can come off as bragging. But our families only want to hear more!
2. Friends
Friends are sometimes a lot like family, we just get to choose them. Friends know when you're having a bad week, and they will be there for you. Friends that check up on how you are doing in school or how your social or dating life is, are the ones to keep forever and be thankful for. We just have to remember to return the favor and check in with them on all of their aspects of life. A good equal give and take friendship is the kind to be most thankful for.
3. Holiday Season
Lets just think about how beautiful the holiday seasons really are. Holiday decorations inside and outside of houses are wonderful to look at, and we must admire the decorations inside our local malls. This might just be me, but the mall is a magical place to be during the holidays. Everyone seems to be a little happier during the holiday season too. Even if some of us are spending the holidays for the first time without a loved one, the atmosphere and support from friends and family around can help ease the grief.
4. Holiday School Breaks
I know this can't just be me- thanksgiving break is a break I am most thankful for. I need that break to recoup and gain the motivation to finish out the next 2-3 weeks left of the semester. Plus, how tired are you from eating grilled cheese and ramen noodles every night at school? Thanksgiving dinner is going to make up for every low budget college meal you settled for.
5. Holiday Movies
Lets break it down to two popular movies: Elf and The Grinch. You either love them both or have a favorite and watch it over and over until Christmas. Personally, I have been dying to start watching The Grinch, but my sister won't even think of watching a Christmas movie until after Thanksgiving. Either way, these movies are such happy movies, no matter how stressed we are- they help us escape from our busy minds.
These are just a few things to be thankful for this holiday season, I could go on for a while. So, no matter what type of holiday you celebrate, we have to remember to give thanks and count our blessings- not our worries during the holiday season!
