Having a sibling is either the best or the worst; or a little bit of both. A little bit of both is what I have. I either want to kill her (not literally) or be with her 24/7, there's no in-between. But, out of all of the terrible fights we've been through, I've had some of the best moments with my sister. She's taught me a lot of things and here are five of them.
1. My sister has taught me to cherish my alone time.
My alone time is precious. It's just me, myself and I, with no interruption from her. Although, I like being around people and enjoy conversations, sometimes that space from her and everyone else is greatly needed.
2. My sister has taught me to be strong.
My sister is the strongest person I know. Having been through a lot, she still keeps going and keeps pushing forward when she could have quit years ago. I cannot imagine losing my parent, losing my grandma right before my high school graduation, or tearing my ACL right before my senior and most important year of high school softball but she's been through it and she's still persevering. Props to you.
3. My sister has taught me not to procrastinate.
I cannot lie, my sister procrastinates big time. Although I am older and have been through more things than she has, she has definitely procrastinated more than I have and I will forever remember the stressful moments where she freaks out and does everything last minute.
4. My sister has taught me not to label people.
If we're being honest, siblings always get labels. You're either the smart one of the dumb one, the pretty one of the not-so-pretty one. Having a sibling has taught me that labeling is not OK. It can actually hurt people's feelings and can be totally untrue.
5. My sister has taught me how to defend myself.
OK so maybe this isn't really ideal, but my sister has taught me how to fight and defend myself. I get a lot of practice with her. Never usually physical (haha), mostly verbal. I know how to defend myself when I am right and how to stick up for myself. After every "fight" though, we always make up.
Having a sister wasn't on my bucket list. I liked being the only child, but now that I think about it, I'm glad I have her. Even though we're not super close I always know that every time I'm with her I will never have a dull moment!
