1. "Who are you voting for?"
As soon as I tell someone my major, without a doubt they immediately ask me who I'm voting for in the upcoming election. While I enjoy talking politics, it's not the only thing I can spark a conversation about. Ask me about what I watch on Netflix, or what my favorite foods are, and we can talk for hours.
2. "What kind of job can you get with that degree?"
The first time I was asked this I assumed it was a joke, but I get asked this question so often now that it actually infuriates me. A degree in Political Science can open so many doors for you. According to the American Political Science Association,
"Political science majors gain the writing, communication, analytical, and data skills that are valued in a wide spectrum of potential careers."
A degree in political science can lead to law school, a masters degree, or a career in government work such as a politician, a city manager, a campaign manager, etc.
3. "So you want to be president some day."
No.
4. "What do you think of Donald Trump?"
5. "You want to be a part of that mess?"
It kills me when someone says something like this to me. This is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I don't see it as a 'mess' or everyone involved as crooks or crazy. Sure there are unsavory characters, but thats in every profession.
