1. The Good Ol’ Shows

Even though I was born in 1999 and therefore can’t really call myself a 90’s kid, the early 2000’s still knew what was up with kids TV! I mean seriously, I find myself even today trying to find old TV shows on youtube and disneychannel.com that no TV station plays anymore. Nothing can ever top Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven, or my ultimate favorite Recess. These shows contained genuinely good acting with real messages behind them. It seems that now every show is all about being a pop star/spy/robot/time traveler. I really do miss the shows where it was just about teens living their everyday lives.

2. School Work Was A Piece of Cake

Was it just me or did going to school seem like an actual adventure in elementary school? I have never been and probably never will be a morning person, but for some reason getting out of bed was much easier to me in elementary school. Perhaps it was because I knew that there was a day full of fun and adventure waiting for me. Not only was the curriculum and work load a breeze in my opinion, but lunchtime and recess were always so entertaining. Don’t get me wrong, being in high school and having more freedom and extracurricular choices is great, but it has nothing on elementary school!

3. Playing With My Sisters

Out of all the fun things I could have been doing with my day, nothing beat playing with my sisters. Like I’ve said before, having siblings is like having your own personal entertainment around you 24/7. There wasn’t a day that went by that me and my sister Faith weren’t getting into some kind of mischief. Whether it was making “mud pies” outside in the backyard, spying on our oldest sister Kendra, or doing my dads make up while he was sleeping, we were ALWAYS up to something. I truly am grateful that my childhood was filled with Polly Pocket dolls, toy store walkie talkies, and bicycle rides rather than sitting in front of a digital screen all day long.

4. Not A Care In The World

I’m trying to remember when the last time my brain wasn’t either filled with thoughts about my future, my personal appearance, my soul's eternity, or my relationships. The only date I can put on that is some time during my childhood. The great thing about being is kid is not having to worry about hardly ANYTHING. My biggest decision I had to make when I was little was scheduling my fun time. Did I want to play with barbies before or after I ate lunch? Did I wanna mattress surf and then ride my bike or ride my bike and then mattress surf? There was no way I was walking around thinking about what colleges I wanted to apply to, or how I was going to make time for all of my extra curricular activities so my resume looked impressive. And I can honestly say, this one I miss a ton!

5. The Magical Joy of Just Being A Kid

Why does everything seem so much more magical and adventurous when you were a kid? Somehow going to the grocery store wasn’t just putting a bunch of food into a shopping cart, but a challenge for me and my sister to see how quickly we could make our way to the toy section before our mom saw us. Doing my homework wasn’t something I put off to the last minute but the perfect opportunity for me to pretend that I was the teacher of my very own classroom. Making a snack wasn’t something I finally talked myself into getting up and doing but my chance to have my own cooking show where I made my famous graham crackers and cheese (yuck!) everyday after school. I’m not sure where that magic went, but I fully intend on getting it back real soon!

Oh the sweet nostalgia of being a kid! I don’t take any of my childhood for granted. If only it could have lasted a few days longer though!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
