Hello, I am a millennial and I am here to tell you please stop in the nicest way possible. What do you need to stop doing exactly? No worries I will let you know...

1. Stop telling us it is our job to fix this country.

Look, it isn’t completely our fault this nation is divided in the first place. Have you forgotten that every time someone from the other side says something to offend you, you whine about it on social media rather than talking to that person? Yes, my generation is completely consumed by technology and since we are this way we know when the technology needs to be put down so we can fix the problem. It isn’t our job to fix what we didn’t break and if you want it fixed, then stop breaking it.

2. Stop telling us we are the future.

We are part of the present, just like you are. Let’s focus on that. Then we can focus on the future when it gets here, but thanks for the update - again.

3. Stop telling us to do better.

Here is the honest truth: a lot of us are trying much harder than we should because we are also dragging along the slackers in our generation. We are doing the absolute best we can and most times that is better than we should be doing.

4. Stop telling us our generation is filled with low lives.

This doesn’t even make sense. In my first year of college, I met a total of 3 people who were undeclared majors. Do you know what toall the other majors were? Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, Psychology, and more double majors than I can count. A majority of the college students I know get at most four hours of sleep every night. We are far from low lives.

5. Stop telling us that we aren’t enough.

You may not say this directly, but actions have always spoken louder than words. You treat this generation of Millennials like we are the scum of the earth and it’s honestly getting kind of ridiculous. It’s hard to do better than our best when we are constantly told we aren’t enough by the people who should be lifting us up.

Eventually, this stereotype you’ve labeled us with might become a reality and man, oh man will that be bad. The truth is, why would we want our children to grow up in this world of hate? I know what you’re thinking, “you’re just a kid you wouldn’t get it,” but I actually do get it because I’m not a kid. All of us were forced to grow up just a little too quick because all of the generations above us had just had enough of it. We started working jobs and going to school and quitting extra curricular because that is what we were told to do and that’s not okay. My generation will graduate with doctorates and master’s and we will be a part of the future, but it won’t be the future you all want. We will teach our children what should and should not be argued about on social media. We will teach our children right from wrong and we will go by those rules as well. If you want us to fix this country, then be proud of who we are. We already know some of us have fallen off the deep end, so you don’t have to tell us. We need help and guidance, so give it.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
