5 Things I've Learned After My First Semester

When I left for school in August, I had this thought in my head that I was getting away from everything bad in my life (not that there was much bad). I thought that college would be this set of new beginnings with nothing but good. But damn, did first semester change my idea about that. I've learned more about life in the last 4 months than I have in the last 18 years.

1. Not everything is going to go your way.

Whether it's trying to register for classes and not getting the ones you want or the professor not curving that test, not everything is going to be in your benefit. Although at first, it sucks and you try your best to make it go your way; in the end it might be for the best. Actually, I've learned that it is for the best. No matter what, you have to learn to make the best of each situation and this helps with that.

2. Not everything is going to be easy.

Things you may have been amazing at in high school, you can quickly find yourself failing at. Not only is college on a whole new level, you're in a completely new and different environment. This should never keep you from giving 100% everything you do should be your best.

3. Not everyone will stay your friend.

College is a huge place to meet people, and create new relationships. But it's pretty safe to say that college is a "revolving door" of people. The person you started off being best friends with the first weeks may not be in your circle of friends 2 months in. Because of it's diversity, college is also the place to hang out with different people. Take advantage of the "revolving door" and make friends with a bunch of people and you'll be surprised who you end up staying friends with!

4. Not everything is going to be picture perfect.

Although Instagram sees your Friday night out at the bar, it will definitely never see the 3 a.m. breakdown about a math test. Fortunately, life was never supposed to be perfect. Breathe, calm down, and remember that life is supposed to have it's ups and downs.

5. No matter what everything will be okay.

When the world feels like it's crashing down, just remember it's really not. You're just going through a rough patch and you will make it through.

Life can be a rough one, but thankfully college has taught me some things that put it in prospective.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
