If you know anything about me, you know that I am not the kind of person to do the whole online dating thing. But at the end of the day, I needed to get out there and meet new people so online dating was an easy option. So with the help of my roommates I created an account on Tinder. It was both a disaster and a wonderful thing all at once. Through my brief experience of online dating I learned a lot of things but here are 5 things I learned.
1. Chances are, the people you meet online are only looking for a hook up not a relationship.
Tinder is not the place to look for a relationship amongst college students. Finding someone who is looking for a relationship instead of a hookup is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
2. Sometimes you'll realize he's not as cute as his pictures made you think he was.
Trust me, we all do it. We all use filters to make ourselves look better. And yes, people will look different than they do in pictures.
3. Boys have this weird sense of confidence that makes them send dirty pictures that you didn’t ask for.
I do not understand why boys feel this is necessary. I did not ask for that so please do not show me that. Thank you.
4. The conversations you will have will be beyond awkward.
It will be awkward and chances are it will get sexual whether you are prepared for it or not.
5. If you ever do go on a date, it will be awkward no matter what.
First dates are so awkward, I don’t care how much you two talk before the date, talking in person is way different than talking over the phone and messaging.
Online dating is not for everyone, and it’s definitely not for me. Even though Tinder did really help me boost my self-esteem and made me feel like I could conquer the world but in the end, I wasn’t going to find what I was looking for on Tinder. If you decide to try online dating, I definitely wish you all the best.
