5 Things You Know If You're A Dog Person
Erika Horton

These days, everything under the sun seems to have a dedicated day of the year... pancakes, ice cream, siblings, cats, and my favorite - dogs! "National Dog Day" was Friday, August 26, and all of my social media filled with people posting pictures of their dogs and expressing how much they loved them. (My news feed had a parade of fluffy dog pictures, and it was great.)

However, someone also posted the occasional cat picture because someone always has to be that person. (Cats have a day, too, so let us dog people do our thing!)

I could just fill this article with pictures of fuzzy, cuddly, balls of love, but I guess I will also write a little something... so here are 5 things you know if you're a dog person.

1. You probably love all animals, but dogs will always be your number 1.

Seriously, what could be better than this tiny puppy playing with a tiny pumpkin? Nothing. The answer is absolutely nothing.

(Be still my heart.)

2. Adoption days are your kryptonite.

Imagine being out buying dog food for the other 72 dogs you already have, and then Petco has an adoption event going on.

(Could you resist taking this guy home? I mean, look at that face!)

3. You change the channel every time those Sarah McLachlan/ASPCA commercials are on TV.

Ruins your whole day and probably makes you cry real tears. Those poor puppies!

4. You feel dirty every time you pet a cat.

Cats are cute, and sometimes, you can't help but give them a good scratch behind the ears, but you always feel like you're betraying man's best friend.

(Make sure to wash off the cat stench before you get home. Fido will be upset with you if you don't.)

5. Every time you see a dog in public, you want to be its best friend.

Seriously, let me love you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
