In a handful of days college kids across the country will rejoice as Thanksgiving break is upon us. Any college kid loves a good break from the stress of school. We have an opportunity to, at least, avoid the 15 page paper that's in our future. But what happens before we go back to mountains of real food? Here are 5 things that happen before a break in college.
1. The "Eye of the Tiger" becomes a lifeline.
I can't tell you how many times my roommate has played this song to get through an assignment. Listening to this is the only thing that keeps us going, especially on the day before we can go home. If you need to survive the final week of class, "Eye of the Tiger" is for you.
2. Procrastination becomes a contest.
How long do you have to write that paper? Well, it looks like you'll be doing it the night before because you procrastinated too much. Papers and studying are the worst before breaks because all you want to do is go home and nap. I suggest that you increase your caffeine intake to survive. The great thing about this is that everyone is doing it, so you can brag about how you read 40 pages two hours before it was due. You'll get lots of respect.
3. This happens every time that you get another assignment due after the break.
This is the worst thing ever. You're watching the clock and counting down the minutes until the class is over. Then the teacher says "this is due the day after Thanksgiving break." Seriously? I don't care if it was on the syllabus, there's a 90% chance that most of the class won't do it. Anyone who does will glare at you as they turn it in. Just leave us to our pie and turkey in peace!
4. You dream about the food.
Caf food is nothing compared to the delicious, home cooked food that awaits you. It's so enticing that you might even dream about it. The pie haunts you before your 8 a.m. and the stuffing takes over when you take a nap. You constantly wake up hungry and have to satisfy the cravings with the old chips in your dorm room. It's okay though, because the food will be here soon!
5. You practically skip out of class on the last day.
This is the best part of the week leading up to Thanksgiving break. After sitting through that terribly boring gen ed. class, you are finally free! Sure, you may have to drive a while or take a plane, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that you can finally get away from school and go home! This is even better if you get to see your dog or cat who you've missed terribly--or your parents!
