Since it's the beginning of the holiday season with Thanksgiving right here, I figured I'd reflect and think of some things that I'm grateful for. I realize some of these may seem cliché, but it doesn't make them any less true. So, here it goes, five things I am truly grateful for.
1. My family
They have literally been there since day one and they have been the best family that I could ask for. Throughout my life, they have been supportive in every way imaginable and I know that I would not be the person I am today without them. Yes, they can be a little crazy and frustrating at times, but at the end of the day I know that they will always be there for me and I for them.
2. My friends
They say you can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. I have friends I've had since kindergarten and some that I've only known for a couple of months. No matter the length of time, they were put in my life for a reason and they help me to become a better me. They have seen me at my best and my worst, yet they still are still there and that is awesome.
3. College
Not everyone gets the privilege of going to college and getting to study a major that they love. Yes, a lot of the times it gets crazy and super stressful, but at some point the craziness will end and you will be left with a college degree and life long friends. College is great because you and a few thousand other people are all there to learn and you all get to live near each other. Because of this, you get really close with people and you get to make the most out of the college experience.
4. Being a college athlete
My life would be a lot less busy without playing on a team, but it would also be a lot more empty. I have met some of my best friends on my team, they've become my second family. Getting the opportunity to go out and play a sport that you love everyday with awesome people is something that not everyone gets to do. Doing sprints and having 6 a.m. lifts stink, but having all your teammates there pushing you to better yourself is something that cannot be replaced.
5. Travel
It doesn't matter if I'm going another state or another country, I just love to travel. There is so much to learn by traveling itself and from the places you go and from the people you meet. International travel can be hard, but there are so many places in the US that are just as amazing and beautiful as places across the world. As Matthew Karsten says," investment in travel is an investment in yourself."
