From 2000 to 2007, the world was entranced by the town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. People couldn’t get enough of the eccentric characters of the town, like grumpy diner owner Luke Danes, experienced dance teacher Miss Patty, rebellious good-girl Lane Kim, klutzy chef Sookie St. James, overachieving Paris Geller, and eccentric Kirk Gleason. But the two that audiences gravitated towards the most were the ones that the show was named after: Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Audiences fell in love with their witty, fast-talking, coffee-obsessed way of life. They loved it so much that they were devastated when the show ended back in 2007. Ever since, fans have wanted more of their story, in whatever form they could get.
Their wish was granted: Netflix recently announced that they’re working with Amy Sherman-Palladino to create a reboot. The reboot would be four long episodes that take place over the time span of a year.
No one knows what the story lines for these episodes will be yet, but here are some ideas that the creators should keep into consideration.
1. The reappearance of Jess Mariano.
The relationship between good-girl Rory and bad-boy Jess was one of the most intriguing aspects of the show. Even though Jess and Lorelai were never on the best of terms (especially after the car accident in Season 2), the chemistry between them was strong enough to shake up the entire town of Stars Hollow. It was undeniable that they would be good for each other; the timing was just never quite right. Jess couldn’t get his act together when they dated in high school, and Rory had lost herself by the time Jess became the man Rory always knew he could be. These two deserve a second chance, now that they both have life figured out a little better.
2. A Luke/Lorelai wedding.
Much like Jess and Rory’s chemistry, Luke and Lorelai’s on-and-off relationship throughout the series was strong enough to rattle the entire town. No one can forget how the town passed out ribbons to show what side they were on the first time Luke and Lorelai broke up, how even Emily Gilmore could tell how in love they were before either admitted it to themselves or each other, or the happiness that overcame them both when they were together. Does it even need to be mentioned how much the finale hinted at a romantic reunion between the former lovers? That kiss alone should have the writers scrambling to have the two of them married in the reboot, or at least on their way down the aisle.
3. More Friday night dinners.
4. Rory's journalism career.
5. All of the townspeople.
" Gilmore Girls" just wouldn’t be the same without the eccentric background of the colorful personalities that make up Stars Hollow. Is Taylor still trying to control the entire town? Has Sookie been recognized for her cooking? Did Hep Alien get back together? Is Paris just as uptight as ever? Will Kirk ever settle down with just one job?
Bottom line is this: please don't mess this up. Please.
