5 Things The City Of Orlando Is Still Missing

You never know what might become reality.

5 Things The City Of Orlando Is Still Missing

I graduate UCF in Spring. After being a student resident in the city of Orlando for the last four years, I really do not want to live anywhere else. However, this city is still missing some things. I am pretty sure you know where I am going for this--the typical list of five things that are really basic that everyone agrees with. Don't worry, my loyal readers, I'll try to keep this somewhat original. So what are the five things Orlando is missing? I am glad you asked.

1. Expanding The Sunrail Train System.

I wrote about this two years ago in what UCF can do to improve in general areas, but that's beside the point. The Sunrail train is such a great idea on paper, but it is very limited in the number of stops it has throughout Central Florida. Could you imagine if you connected UCF's main campus to the Downtown Orlando campus, and then to the Rosen Campus in International Drive? You'd make the city more connected than ever before, and accessing every part of Orlando will be way easier. This idea costs a lot of money, but honestly, the city needs to pull the trigger on it already.

2. More Professional Sports Teams.

Yes, we have the Orlando Magic. Yes, we have Orlando City Soccer. Just think about if we had an MLB, NFL, and an NHL team in one city? It probably won't happen, but a person can certainly dream. Now that Orlando City has their own stadium, it leaves Camping World Stadium by itself with nothing to host in it on a consistent basis. I think its time we bring yet another professional sports team to Orlando, it would just be awesome

3. More Art Museums

The only art museum that's relevant The Menello Museum of American Art. Very small, it gets the job done, but it doesn't spark excitement. A big art museum would be great for the city, someone just needs to be willing to drop the cash on it.

4. Cheaper Housing Options

Again, one of those things that is probably not gonna happen, but one can dream. Anything near the city is gonna be expensive, but it doesn't hurt to have more housing developments to allow for the increase in population. Orlando is just gonna be more expensive as long as the economy stays the way it is, we'll just have to figure out how to deal with it in the future.

5. Resident Discounts On Theme Parks.

Why has this never been a thing I will never know. Yes, we do have a Florida resident rate, but can you imagine if you got an even steeper discount for being a resident of Orlando? Again, one can dream. Orlando is a great place to live, but it definitely can be a lot better. However, just know that those that live here know we are spoiled beyond relief.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
