Every Christian has their own beliefs, morals and interpretations they live by. Every denomination has their own set of doctrines that provide structure for what is acceptable. Despite the differences, here are some traits that every Christian should live by.
1. Nomadic
Ever heard that verse in Romans 10 where it says, “How beautiful are the feet of those of bring the good news!” Well that verse still rings true today. Every Christian is called to make disciples as we go through life. That means going to work, class and the grocery store all the while telling people about the Gospel. That doesn’t mean selling everything and become missionaries (even though some are called to do so). It just means that all Christians should make disciples wherever their lives and feet take them.
2. Serving
The one aspect that we can take from Jesus was the fact that he was never self-serving. He never did anything for his own benefit, and instead, He did everything for the Kingdom of God. All the miracles that He did for other people were to simply prove that He was God. I think Christians should be an example of that kind of love and humility that Christ provided for us. In some way, we must all find ways to serve people. Whether that is with our time, our money or our energy we should find a body of believers to serve and invest into.
3. Inventive
Remember when Paul was talking becoming all things to all people? Well, that does require a certain level of creativity and inventive attitude that allows us to stretch as far as we can to be as much like the people we are ministering to without actually falling into sin. Christians owe it to the people around them to know what their interests and passions are and how to love them. Once that is covered we can begin to minister to people and share with them the good news.4. Open-Minded
In no way does that mean we have to compromise our beliefs and sacrifice what is true according to Scripture. We must become open-minded to the things that God is revealing to us. God can do some amazing things that can blow our minds (I mean He parted the Red Sea, which is awesome), but if Christians aren’t willing to believe it, then they miss out. God is still going to do some incredible things whether or not we see it.
5. Truth-Seeking
This one is pretty obvious. Seeking God’s truth is what leads to a better understanding his character and how to live a godly life. Understanding concepts like God’s love and mercy provoke a love that can bring other people to the wonderful truth of the Gospel. Yes, understanding God’s love in its entirety won’t happen, but trying to always strive to pursue and understand it will mean a deeper relationship with God.
