Ahhhh, the 201. Bergen County is obviously one of the best places in the world during christmas time, because we are close to the city, have a million malls in a 10-mile radius, have the best food. Winter break is a time meant for celebrating the holidays with family and friends, catching up on all the missed sleep from finals week and preparing for another tough semester.
Although Bergen County is only 247 square miles, there is a lot to do during the holiday season. After many eventful weekends at school, cheap, sober fun is needed over the break.
Here are some ideas:
1.Tubing at Campgaw.
Skiing at Campgaw is absolutely not worth it for those who know how to ski, but tubing is a totally different story. Once it gets cold enough for snow, 25 dollars can get you two hours of tubing.
2. Hiking at Ramapo and the Palisades Lookouts.
There are multiple trails at both parks with different ranges of difficulty for all types of hikers. Because the sun goes down a lot earlier in the winter, the parks are closed during daylight hours, so make sure to wake up early and find a bathroom beforehand, because the restrooms will be closed during the winter session.
3. Attend a Devils Hockey Game.
For those of you who love hockey, or just enjoy watching men skate around and beat each other up, you're in luck. The Devils play against the Florida Panthers on December 13 at the Prudential Center at 2:30 and against the Anaheim Ducks on December 19 at 7 p.m.
4. Skate at Ice House.
Winter break is all about doing seasonal activities, so what screams Christmas more than drinking hot chocolate and going ice skating with some friends? Ice House has four NHL-sized rinks, free parking and admission is only 10 dollars and renting skates is only 5 dollars.
5. Host a Holiday Party.
Although you can do this anywhere, hosting a holiday party is one of the best ways to reconnect with all your hometown friends while everyone is on break. One of the best and easiest parties to throw are cookie exchanges. The winner receives a prize for the best tasting cookie and best looking as well. This can also apply to gingerbread house decorating parties.
